For Season 3, I worked as an environment artist on a Kyoto-inspired map for The Finals.
The goal was to build a believable setting based on traditional Japanese architecture, while making sure it fits the fast-paced and destructible nature of the game.
As part of the process, I went on a photoscanning trip to Japan, where Robert Berg and I photoscanned assets and textures in Kyoto and nearby areas.
I focused mainly on traditional houses, temples, and pagodas, looking closely at materials, structure, and small details that help sell the environment.
I also worked with Houdini tools together with Adrian Björkerud to generate buildings and details, which helped speed up the workflow and improve iteration times.
I thoroughly enjoyed working on this map, and I’m very satisfied with the outcome.
